• Lantern House

Austin, TX

This house is designed as two levels, in a very linear “L” shape to allow the main spaces to spread out more evenly across the site in the natural direction of the topography in order to balance cut at the top of the hill and the fill at the bottom. The result is a design that steps back as it moves up the hill, building the house “into” the hillside. The materials take their cues from this – cladding stone where dirt has been removed and a unique wood facade where trees have been removed.

The views are maximized off the back patio, that builds the pool substantially out of grade and allows a secret subterranean passageway to yoga, zen and play spaces nestled below the pool and into the trees.
