Mountain Top Residence

Situated at the top of a street in the Balcones neighborhood, this house overlooks the Colorado River and hillsides beyond to the West, and Mount Bonnell and Downtown Austin to the South and East.

We focused the design on maximizing the views and creating a space that would allow us to bring the outside in and the inside out. The home is a carefully-curated balance of modern, comfort, drama, and subtlety. From the blend of three different types of native limestone to the custom profile of the stained wood siding, each element of the material palette has been hand-selected and customized for this home.

Our clients love to entertain and throw both intimate dinner parties as well as gatherings for larger groups of people, so they wanted a home that supported all types of social activity. They often host out of town visitors, so it was important for us to design a space that provided their guest’s privacy while maintaining their own. Stylistically, their goal was to create a warm contemporary house with mid-century modern influences and a floor plan to support these social activities and their day-to-day lives.
